Trust the Spotter

Scripture (NKJV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6

Limited Visibility

Anyone who has wheeled difficult trails knows there are moments when you can’t fully see the line ahead.

The hood blocks your view.
The rocks look different from the driver’s seat.
One wrong move can put you in a bad position fast.

That’s why spotters matter.

A good spotter sees what you can’t.

Leaning on Our Own Understanding

Most of us naturally trust what we can see.

What makes sense.
What feels safe.
What seems logical.

But Scripture says:

“Lean not on your own understanding…”

That’s difficult.

Because we want control.

We want full visibility before we move forward.

But faith often requires trusting God before we can clearly see the outcome.

God Sees the Full Trail

We only see a small piece of the road ahead.

God sees the entire path.

  • the obstacles

  • the dangers

  • the timing

  • the purpose behind the process

Nothing surprises Him.

What feels uncertain to us… is already fully known by God.

Listening to the Right Voice

On technical trails, too many voices create confusion.

Everybody yelling directions usually leads to problems.

Spiritually, the same thing happens.

Culture speaks.
Fear speaks.
Pride speaks.
Opinions speak.

But wisdom comes from learning to recognize the voice of God above the noise.

Trust Requires Movement

Trust isn’t proven when everything makes sense.

Trust is proven when you obey anyway.

When the spotter says:

“Driver.”
“Slow.”
“Come forward.”

You move based on trust.

Not complete visibility.

That’s how faith works with God.

This Week’s Challenge

Ask yourself honestly:

Where am I relying more on my own understanding than trusting God?

What decision, burden, or uncertainty have you been trying to control?

This week:

Pause.
Pray.
Listen.

Then move in obedience, even if you can’t see the whole trail yet.

Prayer

Lord,
Help me trust You more than my own understanding.
Teach me to listen for Your direction and give me the courage to follow even when I cannot fully see the path ahead.
Keep me steady and guide my steps according to Your will.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
