Do the Work: Faith That Moves
Do the Work: Faith That Moves
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
James 1:22 (NKJV)
Hearing Isn’t the Same as Doing
Out on the trail, knowing what to do isn’t enough.
You can study the line, talk through the obstacle, and understand the terrain.
But at some point…You have to put it in gear and move.
Faith works the same way.
It’s not built on what we know.
It’s built on what we do with what we know.
The Danger of Standing Still
James gives a direct warning: “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only…”
It’s possible to hear truth regularly…read scripture, listen to messages, talk about faith, and still not move.
That’s the danger, not rejection of truth, just inaction.
Over time, inaction becomes deception and we start thinking we’re walking in faith when we’re really just standing still.
Faith Requires Movement
Real faith leads to action.
Not perfect action.
Not flawless execution.
But movement…..
Forgiving when it’s hard.
Leading your family with intention.
Choosing integrity when no one sees.
Trusting God enough to obey, even when it costs something.
Faith that never moves isn’t growing.
Small Steps Matter
Most obedience doesn’t happen in big moments.
It happens in small, daily decisions…..
opening the Word when you don’t feel like it
choosing patience over reaction
speaking truth instead of staying silent
doing what’s right when it would be easier not to
You don’t conquer the trail all at once, you move forward one obstacle at a time, one rock, one log, one hill.
Aligning with God’s direction is the same.
He doesn’t call us to figure everything out first, He calls us to respond.
One thing at a time.
When He shows you something in His Word… it’s your time to move.
Obedience is the response to truth, and the more we respond, the stronger our faith becomes.
This Week’s Challenge
Ask yourself:
What has God already shown me… that I haven’t acted on yet?
Not something new, something you already know.
Take one step this week, not ten…. Just one.
Move forward in obedience.
Prayer
Lord,
Help me not just to hear Your Word, but to live it out.
Give me the courage to act on what You’ve shown me, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Strengthen my faith through obedience, one step at a time.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
