You Weren’t Meant To Carry It All
You Weren’t Meant To Carry It All
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?[a] 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:25-33 (ESV)
The Weight We Carry
On the trail weight matters. Too much load, and everything changes.
The handling gets sloppy, strain on components increases, and performance drops.
You can still move forward, but it’s harder than it needs to be.
Worry works the same way.
It adds weight we were never meant to carry.
Worry doesn’t provide; it only takes from you.
Jesus speaks directly to something every one of us deals with: “Do not worry about your life…”
Food, clothing, provisions, and the future are real concerns.
But Jesus points out something we often forget, worry doesn’t fix any of it.
It doesn’t provide, it doesn’t protect, it doesn’t change the outcome.
It only weighs us down!
Look at Creation
Jesus gives us a simple example in verse 26 “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? “
They don’t store up or plan like we do, yet God provides for them.
If God faithfully provides for His creation, then how much more will He provide for you?
The Root of Worry
Worry isn’t just about your circumstances.
It’s about trust.
It’s the question underneath it all: Do I really believe God will provide?
Not just in theory, but in my situation, with my responsibilities, in everything I do.
Seek First
Jesus doesn’t just say “don’t worry”, He gives us direction!
“Seek first the kingdom of God…”
This is where our focus needs to shift.
When we chase control, our worry increases.
When we pursue God, our trust grows.
Seeking Him first means: putting Him before everything else, trusting His timing, and aligning our life with His will.
One Day at a Time
Jesus closes with something simple and powerful “Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
We tend to carry yesterday’s regret, today’s stress, and tomorrow’s uncertainty.
Jesus brings it all back to today.
Walk with Him today, trust Him today, follow Him today.
That’s where peace is found.
This Week’s Challenge
Take a moment and identify what’s weighing on you.
What are you worried about right now?
Instead of carrying it, do this:
Give it to God in prayer.
Then intentionally shift your focus back to Him.
Not once, but daily.
Prayer
Lord,
You know the weight I’ve been carrying.
Help me to trust You instead of trying to control everything myself.
Teach me to seek You first and to rest in Your provision.
Give me peace for today and faith for what’s ahead.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
